Vtiger migrations can feel intimidating. One of our clients wished to migrate from a 5.X Vtiger build to a 6.X Vtiger build. In the 6.X build our client wanted to move data to new custom modules that we were tasked to create. So how do you allow the client to have interaction with a migration? What if you want to reorganize your data during a migration based on decisions that cannot be automated?
We took the approach of migrating all of their data to a “placeholder” within the new build. We then created a “Migration Wizard” that has prefilled fields based off the client’s most likely migration paths. The client also has the ability to modify the pre filled selections to precisely what makes sense for their data structure.
